Itinerary:

Day 1 | Arrive Tahiti, Society Islands, French Polynesia – Casting Off for Adventure

A bustling hub of French Polynesia’s Society Islands, Tahiti towers over the ocean, with waterfall-laden mountains, black sand beaches, blue lagoons and a distinctly modern buzz. The energetic capital of Pape’ete serves as your port of embarkation, as well as a melting pot for the diverse cultures of the surrounding archipelagos.

Day 2 | Tahiti, Society Islands – Casting Off for Adventure

After a relaxing morning at your resort, board Le Jacques-Cartier and begin your exploration of French Polynesia.

Day 3 | Fakarava, Tuamotu Islands – Diving into Island Life

Located northeast of Tahiti, the 76 atolls of the extensive Tuamotuan chain span some 1.2 million square miles of the sparkling Pacific. Fakarava is the second largest of the Tuamotu Islands and home to the small village of Rotoava. Go ashore to meet the local craftspeople who keep Fakarava’s artisanal traditions alive. Alternatively, hop on an e-bike to explore the island’s lighthouse, a smaller oceanfront village and a historic church. Afterward, relax on a private beach of soft pink sand.

Day 4 | Tahanea, Tuamotu Islands – Uninhabited Atoll

Come ashore on Tahanea, an uninhabited atoll familiar only to a handful of local fishermen and the endemic sandpipers and warblers that call its lagoon their home. Explore, walk the beach or snorkel amid the stunning beauty of this true island paradise.

Day 5 | At Sea – Cruising to the Marquesas

Cruise toward the Marquesan Island of Fatu Hiva, making the most of Le Jacques-Cartier’s onboard facilities while preparing for tomorrow’s excursion with presentations from the Expedition Team.

Day 6 | Fatu Hiva, Marquesas – Nature’s Sacred Balance

Stretching further northeast from the Tuamotu Islands, the volcanic Marquesas are among the most remote islands in the world. Locals believe this island realm’s mountains, waterfalls and mysterious archeological sites are all bound by mana, a sacred force that keeps nature in balance. Make landfall on Fatu Hiva, the most isolated of the inhabited Marquesas. Here, hike to the achingly beautiful Bay of the Virgins, trek to a secluded waterfall or take a scenic drive. Then, swim from one of the island’s idyllic beaches.

Day 7 | Nuku Hiva, Marquesas – Melville’s Muse

Come ashore on the largest of the Marquesas, Nuku Hiva. Though vast in size, the island remains largely untouched by tourism, making its rich local culture and mysterious archeological treasures all the more appealing. On a scenic drive, a guide reveals how Herman Melville’s adventures on Nuku Hiva inspired his novel Typee. Alternatively, hike an island trail or set out in search of tiki, petroglyphs, paepae stone platforms and other archeological relics.

Day 8 | Hiva Oa, Marquesas – Gauguin’s Legacy

Known as the garden of the Marquesas, Hiva Oa is marked by its emerald countryside, craggy mountains and deep valleys. Explore the island’s enduring connection with Paul Gauguin at the artist’s former home and final resting place. Alternatively, explore the tiki of the Upeke archeological site.

Day 9 | Ua Pou, Marquesas – Ancient Warriors of Legend

The tranquil island of Ua Pou stands guarded by Poutetaunui and Poumaka, two towering basalt pillars said to represent ancient warriors. Pass under their gaze and head ashore to hike a trail to the peak of Poumaka, or hunt for the island’s distinctive flower stones.

Day 10 | At Sea – Cruising Back to the Tuamotus

Today, the Expedition Team continues its enriching lecture series as Le Jacques Cartier begins the return leg back toward the Tuamotuan Islands.

The pristine beaches, ocean breezes, crystal clear lagoon and abundant marine life of Manihi soothe the soul like few places on Earth. Come ashore to swim, beachcomb or just soak it all in.

Day 12 | Rangiroa, Tuamotu Islands – Bounty of the Reef

Translated roughly as “the big sky,” Rangiroa spans more than 400 islets that encircle a massive lagoon teeming with marine life. Delve into Rangiroa’s aquatic wonders with a visit to a black pearl farm or a glass-bottom boat ride amid the reef’s Napoleon fish.

Day 13 | Mataiva, Tuamotu Islands – Leopard Print Lagoon

Mataiva is distinguished by its unique lagoon spotted with small, deep pools. Here, swim in the lagoon, snorkel the reefs or explore the rock formations and beaches.

Day 14 | Bora Bora, Society Islands – Pearl of the Pacific

The leading lady of the South Pacific, Bora Bora is synonymous with romance, tropical beaches and warm hospitality. Go beyond the tourist’s Bora Bora with everything from 4x4 explorations of the mountains and World War II sites to snorkeling and glass-bottom boat excursions offshore.

Day 15 | Raiatea, Society Islands – Wayfinders’ Homeland

Known as Hawaiki, or “the homeland,” Raiatea was once regarded as the cultural and religious center of the Society Islands. Legend holds that skilled wayfinders navigated double-hulled sailing canoes from these shores outward to the distant reaches of Hawaii, New Zealand and beyond. Retrace this legendary legacy as you kayak offshore, snorkel the reefs from a catamaran or explore an archeological site on land.

Day 16 | Depart Tahiti – the Voyage Ends

Disembark Le Jacques-Cartier and transfer to the airport for your homebound flight.

Discover Croatia’s historic cities of Trogir and Split, tasting local specialties and walking the imposing halls of Diocletian’s Palace. Cast off for a jet boat ride to the enchanting Blue Cave in Montenegro’s Bay of Kotor.

Cycle Dubrovnik’s Konavle Valley, pausing for a private tasting at a local restaurant. Transit Greece’s breathtaking Corinth Canal, a route unnavigable by larger vessels.

Itinerary:

Day 1 | Arrive Venice, Italy – Gateway to the Adriatic

A heady dream of Carnival, canals, basilicas and Byzantine relics, Venice bewitches from the very first breath. Nowhere else in the world can you turn from a floating marble palace into a warren of stirring, salty-aired passageways, where life has ebbed and flowed with the rhythm of the water for centuries. Your expedition of discovery begins here, just as countless voyages have throughout the ages.

Day 2 | Split, Croatia – Wonders of the Walled City

As church bells and traditional Klapa singers call out, Split’s beaches, fresh seafood and Roman architecture beckon. Its maze of medieval alleys leads to the imperial Palace of Diocletian, the 3rd-century Roman fortress that forms the heart of the city, its ancient walls now bustling with cafes, shops and local life. After a tour of the Old Town’s palace ruins, explore Trogir, a charming town with a majestic 15th-century castle. Or, visit a local market to sample freshly harvested favorites.

Day 3 | Dubrovnik – Your Game of Thrones Cameo

The sleeping beauty of the Mediterranean, Dubrovnik has been plundered so many times over its 700-year-history that its old town was once unrecognizable. Today, it has been restored to its red-roofed, ocean-lapped former glory and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, making its car-free streets an irresistible setting for the location scouts who worked on Game of Thrones.

Day 4 | Dubrovnik – Choose Your Own Adventure

With so much to see and experience, there are a variety of options for spending your day here. Explore the Dominican Monastery and Cathedral, the Sponza Palace, the Rector’s Palace and Onofriou’s Fountain. Or, journey into the countryside for a winery visit and lunch at a local farm. Foodies might prefer an exploration of the region’s mussels, oysters and olive oil on a culinary excursion to the village of Orasac and the city of Ston. Meanwhile, active enthusiasts might choose a kayaking tour of Dubrovnik’s city walls, including a visit to Lokrum Island to swim and explore, or a bike excursion through the Konavle Valley with a stop at a local vineyard.

Day 5 | Kotor, Montenegro – Medieval Maritime Bastion

Flanked by fjords and mountainous ridges on a picturesque Dalmatian bay, Kotor enjoys a rich medieval maritime and trade legacy survived by its remarkably preserved houses, palaces and churches. Begin with an exploration of Kotor’s historic Roman buildings and a local cathedral dating to 1166. Afterward, opt for a boat excursion to the Baroque jewel of Perast, a speedboat tour of Kotor Bay and the sapphire-like Blue Cave, or a cruise to Our Lady of the Rocks Church — home to Tripo Kokolja’s 33-foot masterwork Death of the Virgin.

Day 6 | Corfu, Greece – Greece's Emerald Island

Even among the beautiful and scenic Greek isles, Corfu stands out for its lush greenery as well as its charmingly winding streets and whitewashed houses. Head ashore to explore the Esplanade, the Town Hall and the Church of Saint Spyridon. Or, visit the Achilleion Palace, the former residence of Empress Sisi, wife of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Culinary excursions include a winery visit or a tour of the town’s shops and restaurants. Alternatively, head off-road on a mountain bike adventure to a secluded village, complete with a stop in a local taverna.

Day 7 | Cephalonia – Stunning Second Act

While Corfu is a tough one to follow, serene Cephalonia plays a seductive second act to our Greek Isles drama with lush landscapes, scenic mountains and crystalline blue waters. Here, visit the monastery of St. Gerasimos to see the cave where the medieval monk lived. Then, explore the picturesque villages of Sami and Assos, or an underground lake at Melissani. Alternatively, paddle out for a kayak adventure along the rugged coastline, stopping for a swim at Emplisi Beach.

Day 8 | Itea – a Fitting Finale

Set in the arms of the Corinthian Gulf, Itea lies surrounded by olive groves and the scenic mountains of Giona and Parnassus. It serves as a popular gateway to mystical Delphi, revered by ancient Greeks as the center of the world. Today, explore Delphi’s Temple of Apollo and Treasury of Athens. Alternatively, take a scenic drive to the monastery at Ossios Loukas, past the scenic valleys of Delphi and on to the historic boatbuilding enclave of Galaxidi. Or, explore Itea’s ancient beekeeping heritage at a local apiary. Back aboard your vessel, transit the Corinth Canal, a narrow waterway that has joined the Ionian and Aegean seas for over a century. Tonight, gather for a farewell gala dinner and cocktails under the stars.

Day 9 | Depart Athens – The Voyage Ends

Bid farewell to your Expedition Team and crew as you disembark in Athens this morning. Continue on your post-tour extension to Thessaloniki or transfer to the airport for your return flight home.
